The dilemma of happiness.
return to top

The dilemma of happiness. One erroneously believes that happiness comes from "having it all." Rarer is the person who takes the opposite extreme believing the ideal is to "desire nothing." Another, more psychologically-oriented than these two, believes happiness comes through the mind's decision – those who think they are happy are happy – regardless of outside circumstances. A philosopher might suggest that happiness can only be known by experiencing its opposite, sadness. A rationalist suggests that the perspective gained through intelligence enables the right weighing of matters leading to happiness. While a realist counters that those of extreme intellect usually are the most unhappy of people. And what do I say: Happiness is a gift from God. Enjoy life's precious moments, whether they are few or many. Relish every experience with an eye to this divine perspective and a thankful heart.

Grace gilds actions causing another to appreciate them more or take notice. Put her on each day before you go out and you're sure to find success. Grace is a special softness that's seen by your unassuming and assuring manner. Grace accepted is a judgment by others that what you say or do has a certain rightness to it. Value the full grace that only God can provide and you've given the proper value to both others and yourself. Never forget that the how of doing is perhaps even more important than the what.

Yet understand that grace may clothe wickedness as well as truth. Beware and know with certainty that the corruption of this divine gift has been practiced by the majority of nobles and rulers for centuries. Grace resting upon wickedness is no more than the thin gilding of precious gold placed upon a carefully-crafted replica – a deceptive calculation intended to dupe those who see it that the forgery before them is actually the real thing.

Which truth of grace will you put on? The old and vile purple robe, found in the boudoir of monarchs' past or the sash of truth, found only in the prayer chamber of one devoted to Him.
